Morningside Elementary MCA Picnic
The Miami Choral Academy held five Saturday rehearsals and 4 family picnics over the months of October and November. MCA students worked hard all morning in preparation for their upcoming Winter Choir Festival performances and then feasted on the amazing food brought by our parents and friends. Thank you to all who contributed and make these once again a huge success!

MCA’s afterschool program at Natural Bridge Elementary School has over 70 young singers! We barely fit in the music room. In the second week of rehearsal the MCA Natural Bridge students are already developing a warm sound and proper technique.

This week the Miami Choral Academy welcome 250 new and returning students. The MCA ensembles will be performing all over Miami this year, including two concerts at the Church of St. Martha, and our Gala event at the New World Center.

The Miami Choral Academy finished it’s first season of concerts with the Miami Choral Academy Spring Choir Festival. All 150 students came together for an unforgettable evening celebrating young voices. Mr. C and the entire MCA teaching and conducting staff are very proud of how well everyone did this year. Check back soon for video and audio clips from MCA performances throughout the first year.
It has been a while since we have updated our blog. Much has happened since the winter concert. MCA ensembles have performed for the mayor of Miami’s State of the County Address, Shawn Crouch, academy director received the key to the city, and just last Friday, all 150 MCA singers performed for the MCA Benefit Gala “Keep the Music Alive 2011″ at the New World Center. The ensemble performed the children’s march from “Carmen” and received a standing ovation. We are now looking forward to working on the music for the upcoming Spring Choir Festival on May 27.
The Miami Choral Academy Winter Choir Festival was held on December 4th, at Trinity Cathedral in downtown Miami. All 150 MCA students gathered for an afternoon rehearsal and evening performance before a sold out audience! MCA students received a standing ovation for their incredible work. We can’t wait to see how the choirs progress as we move into the spring.

MCA Mass Choir
The Miami Choral Academy community gathered together for the first time at Trinity Cathedral in downtown Miami for the first Winter Choir Festival, a celebration of young voices. It was a huge success with over 150 students rehearsing in the afternoon and performing a full concert in the evening. Each school MCA choir performed a selection by themselves, and then gathered as a mass choir. The students received a standing ovation from the nearly sold out audience. Way to go MCA!
Thank you everyone who helped create four wonderful Saturday rehearsals and picnics. It was so great to meet all the parent, and the food the parents and friends brought was incredible. A special thank you to all the principals that helped make the October picnics a huge success. In addition, thank you to Joanne Schulte (Seraphic Fire Board President) Amanda Crouch who helped with serving food and organizing the picnics, and all the parents who volunteered their time including Ms. Lorceus at Natural Bridge, Ms. Mobley at Lorah Park, and Ms. Osendi at Citrus Grove (who made incredible MCA table decorations). We look forward to our first Miami Choral Academy Choir Festival coming up on December 4.
Yesterday, November 6, marked the final fall picnic for the Miami Choral Academy. Morningside Elementary School and the Miami Choral Academy had a wonderful morning rehearsal where we worked on music for Morningside’s Holiday Musical, and MCA music. MCA will perform one piece from their holiday musical, a piece called “Kwanza Child” , at the MCA Choir Festival, in addition to participating in the mass choir. Ms. Joanne (Seraphic Fire Board President), played piano for us, what a treat!. After a great rehearsal, we performed two pieces for our parents and feasted on sandwiches, fried chicken, macaroni salad and wonderful cookies. It was a great afternoon where Mr. C , Ms. Joanne, and Mr. C’s wife Amanda Crouch (Ms. Amanda) all got to speak with parents and students.
