MCA Classroom Demos Begin

Lorah Park started off the classroom demonstrations this week with great performances by Mr. Alec, Mr. Vincent, Ms. Jenie, and Ms. Isabella’s classes! Students got to see what each of the other classes were doing with solfege, composition, folk songs, rhythms and improvisation.

MCA and Seraphic Fire’s “Keep The Music Alive” 2012 Benefit Concert

The young singers of the Miami Choral Academy will not soon forget the standing ovation they received last week at the New World Center. MCA’s 200 members–all in elementary school–sang beautifully at Keep the Music Alive, a benefit concert for the Miami Choral Academy.

In their own set, the 26-member MCA Honors Chamber Choir Making made their Miami Beach debut with their moving performance of The Greatest Love of All.

The finale brought to the stage all 200 members of the Miami Choral Academy alongside the professional vocalists of Seraphic Fire. MCA first accompanied Misty Bermudez to perform the famous Habanera, from Bizet’s opera Carmen. From there, and with Patrick Dupré Quigley at the piano, the children sang Quigley’s stunning arrangement of Steal Away with countertenor, Reggie Mobley. The evening concluded with the children accompanying Kathryn Mueller for a magnificent performance of The Way Old Friends Do.

The evening could not have been a success without the strong backing of many parents, teachers, school principals, and event sponsors. We sincerely thank everyone for their humbling display of support!

The Miami Choral Academy presents their final concert of the year, the Miami Choral Academy Spring Choir Festival, on June 1 at St. Martha’s Church in Miami Shores. The event is free and open to the public.

MCA rehearses for their Benefit Concert

Members from all five MCA ensembles spent Saturday morning rehearsing for they upcoming MCA Benefit Concert. MCA students met and rehearsed with Misty Bermudez who MCA will perform the famous Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen. MCA students can’t wait to meet and perform with Seraphic Fire singers Regie Mobley and Kathryn Mueller on Wednesday evening’s performance.

MCA Chamber Choir are featured performers at the Big Brothers Big Sisters Gala

The MCA Chamber Choir were featured performers at the Miami Big Brothers Big Sisters Gala. The MCA singers performed “Siyahamba” and “The Reach” made famous by Gloria Estefan. The kids received a standing ovation for their performance. It was also the first time many of the kids had ever performed with dry ice, and dancers/acrobats suspended front he ceiling. What a great evening!

The Miami Choral Academy Chamber Choir performed at the Key Biscayne Women’s Giving Circle annual luncheon which took place at March 7 at the home gallery of Rosa De La Cruz. Our young singers did a magnificent job even with a few rain drops. Later we received a tour of the modern art throughout the house. MCA Chamber Choir hopes to perform at the De La Cruz Gallery in the design district next year.

The Miami Choral Academy is excited to have the generous support of the Miami Marlins this year. Through the Miami Marlins support, MCA was able to provide transportation for families to the Miami Choral Academy Winter Choir Festival. Thanks to the Marlins, the Winter Choir Festival was standing room only! In addition, the Marlins provided MCA students dinner before the concert began. The Miami Choral Academy is grateful for the generosity of the Miami Marlins and we look forward to working with them in the future.

The Miami Choral Academy had their first performance of the season on December 2 at the Church of St. Marthas. All five ensembles, over 200 singers, performed for a packed house of teachers, parents, and friends.
